Saint Katharine Drexel School - "CONTINUING THE MISSION"

 School Information

St. Katharine Drexel School is a Catholic parochial elementary school serving students in kindergarten through grade eight.

The school office is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Parents are asked to make appointments if they wish to schedule a conference with a teacher or the principal. All messages and deliveries for students are handled through the school office.

Students are to be present at school at 7:55 for homeroom. Grades K through eight begin at 8:05 AM with a 45-minute lunch break, and dismiss at 3:00. Students are asked not to come to school before 7:50 AM, as there is no supervision, other than Safety Patrol members on the playground before school. (During inclement weather, the school doors will be opened at 7:30 AM.)

Registration Information

Registration takes place during the months of February and March. Forms are sent home with the children and must be completed fully and registration fees must be paid before registration is complete.

All fees are described in the Registration Packet. Tuition and fees are handled by the school bookkeeper, who can be reached at school, (314) 353-1451.

In accordance with Archdiocesan policy, students must be five years old by August 1 to be considered for kindergarten, and six years old by August 1 to be considered for first grade.

Mass

Students attend Mass weekly, either in a small group with three other classes, or as an entire school, usually at 8:05 AM. Parents are urged to join us in any of our communal prayer experiences, either in school or in church. Masses and prayer services are listed on the monthly calendar sent home through the students.

Admission Policies

Classroom size are limited to the following:
Gr. K-3 25 students
Gr. 4-8 28 students

If class sizes are exceeded, an alternative program to create a smaller class environment will be adopted.

The following criteria will be used to establish priority for acceptance into the new school:

  1. Families with students currently enrolled in Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Mary Magdalen, who are current with tuition payments.
  2. Siblings of students currently enrolled in either school.
  3. Registered families of Our Lady of Sorrows and/or St. Mary Magdalen parishes.
  4. Catholic families living in a parish without a designated school.
  5. Non-Catholic families living within the boundaries of Our Lady of Sorrows and/or St. Mary Magdalen parishes who agree to have their children participate in the religious education program at our school.
  6. Non-Catholic families living outside the boundaries of both parishes who agree to have their children participate in the religious education program at our school.

Additionally, families must show a willingness to support their church both spiritually and financially. All students who are enrolled as part of a registered family within the boundaries of either parish must live with the parent or legal guardian who is a registered parishioner.

Exceptions may be requested from the pastors, in writing, for individual consideration of extraordinary circumstances.
