"In order to provide a safe environment, the carrying or possession of any type of firearm or other dangerous weapon on the premises of St. Katharine Drexel School is strictly prohibited. This prohibition expressly includes those persons licensed to carry concealed firearms. See the Family Handbook for more information.

Electronic Devices

Students are not permitted to bring electronic devices of any kind to school, including cell phones, pagers, portable CD/tape players/stereos, games, etc. Any electronic devices brought to school will be kept in the principal's office until a parent or guardian comes into school and requests it. St. Katharine Drexel School will not be responsible for lost or stolen property.

Emergency Situations

St. Katharine Drexel School staff is trained in responding to emergency situations that could arise, including fire, tornado, earthquake, bomb threat, intruder, and issues related to hazardous materials. Students practice for various emergency situations on a regular basis. Emergency supplies are kept in each classroom.

Expulsion and Suspension

Teachers have the responsibility of guiding the learning of all students. When the behavior of one student interferes with the learning of others, that student will be isolated from the class. Should the inappropriate behavior continue, that student will be suspended for a time deemed to be appropriate by the administration and the teacher.

Should a student demonstrate a consistent pattern of inappropriate behavior with no noted improvement, that student is choosing to remove himself or herself permanently from St. Katharine Drexel School to protect the learning rights of the other students.

Field Trips

Field trips are planned periodically by the teachers to enhance instructional and cultural enrichment. Most often, parents are invited to accompany the students. We try to maintain a ratio of one adult per ten students.

The Archdiocesan signed permission slips are required for students to participate. Oral permission or hand written notes will not be acceptable for your child to participate on field trips. Your cooperation will be appreciated. All students are to go on all field trips.

Students will travel by bus or car, and any transportation fees, admission costs, or other fees will be assessed. If field trip costs present a hardship for a family, parents are asked to notify the school office. Financial assistance will be provided, if possible.

Harassment

Harassment of any kind is contradictory to the teachings of Jesus Christ and therefore the philosophy and mission of St. Katharine Drexel School. St. Katharine Drexel. School prohibits harassment of its students and staff. Harassment involves unwelcome conduct towards a person's race, color, disability, religion, sex, or national origin. Sexual harassment consists of any unwanted verbal, physical or visual conduct of a sexual nature (i.e., sexual innuendo, unwanted touching or comments, etc.) that interferes with the school environment.

Parents are encouraged to report incidents of harassment to the teacher or the principal.

Non-Custodial Parents

Non-custodial parents wanting to receive all school communication are entitled to receive it. Those wanting newsletters and other pertinent information, please inform school at the start of the year. A fee of $10.00 will be assessed for these requesting mailings.

Medication

 School personnel will not dispense
prescription or non-prescription medication of any kind to a student without the following: the direct order of a licensed physician, signed and properly filed with school, and written permission of the parent to dispense the medication.

All medication set to school will be kept in secure place under the supervision of the administration. Students may not carry medication on their person. Proper documentation will be kept on every dose.

Ideally all medication should be given at home. Please make your physician aware of the problems associated with giving medication at school. They may be able to change time schedules so medication can be given before and after school hours. a) the name of the student
    b) the name of the medication
    c) dosage
    d) time medication is to be given
    e) for what period of time medication is to be given
Note: A current prescription label on container will serve as a physician's order.
  2. Written permission by the parent or guardian requesting that the school administer the medication.
  3. Medication may only be brought to school by a parent or legal Guardian. School will not accept medication from a student. (Medication must be brought to school in a container appropriately labeled).
  4.  For medications that will be given for the entire school year. the child needs a new container each school year.
  5.  If there is a change in dosage or timing of medication. the Physician must submit the change in writing. A parent may not give permission to administer medication differently than the physician's order.
